Bitpanda switched on margin trading for stocks, ETFs and ETCs on 8 July 2026. Depending on the security, leverage goes up to 20x. You borrow E-Token (EURCV) to open a bigger position, and you can lose more than you put in.

What did Bitpanda announce?

According to the Bitpanda blog post of 8 July 2026, the feature is live in the app. Bitpanda describes it as suitable for experienced customers only. The product page mentions more than 875 stocks and ETFs. The maximum leverage depends on the security: often 10x, some 5x or 2x, and 20x for a few names such as Airbus and Allianz.

Key figures: up to 20x leverage, €0 buy fee, €1 sell fee, 0.18% daily fee

What does margin trading cost?

  • Buy: €0 fee
  • Sell: €1 fee
  • Ongoing fee: 0.18% per day, tapering over time, charged every four hours
  • Liquidation: 1% fee

The daily fee runs as long as the position is open. It eats into returns and shrinks the buffer before liquidation.

How does it work?

Bitpanda GmbH lends E-Token (EURCV) that you use to buy a larger position. As collateral you pledge the securities you bought plus other assets such as E-Money or crypto. Bitpanda Financial Services GmbH executes the securities trades on an execution-only basis, without advice. Bitpanda itself calls margin trading and borrowing E-Token an unregulated service.

What risks does Bitpanda list?

Small price moves can trigger a margin call or liquidation. You can lose all pledged assets and still owe the borrowed EURCV plus fees, so losses can exceed your stake. The post gives no liquidation thresholds; Bitpanda says the app shows them.

What does it mean for eWO customers?

This isn’t a way to buy crypto, and we’re not recommending it: it’s a product for experienced traders. Bitpanda doesn’t say which countries it’s available in; the app will show you. If you use Bitpanda only to buy and hold, nothing changes for you. Our terms for Bitpanda are on the Bitpanda page.
